Bookplates of Duncan Robert Mackintosh on front endpapers. Mackintosh was a distinguished translator of Chinese verses, who frequently worked with Ayling to put the English version into its final form. This shows the development and the taking shape of the translations in detail, and could well yield insights for future work on Chinese/English translation, as well as its intrinsic interest as an unusual literary archive.
