With frontispiece b&w engraving; plus 26 b&w engravings in text, some as chapter headings (including pictorial title page). The book is dedicated to Lord Derby, President of the Zool…ogical Society of London, who had a noted menagerie at Knowsley Hall, and the text makes various references to his birds. Despite the title, various types of wild birds are discussed here as well (eg Curassows, emus- with interesting comments on the current state of bird preservation in Australia- albatrosses, wild geese and the nightingale) A Good+ copy. Light marking to covers (small faded patches); pages generally clean and unfoxed, some creased and nicked corners; the binding is sound apart from a few leaves right at front which are nearly loose due to crack at internal hinge. Back endpapers have old stain. Still a decent copy of this scarce volume.
