According to the informational sheet laid in (from Time-Life books), this is a padded, leather bound edition. Brown with gilt titles and all edges gilt., marbled endpapers. There is a raised design on the front. Ribbon bookmark bound in. Everything is clean, bright, tightly bound. Corners sharp, spine straight, no tears or creases, no markings.

The tainted sheriff in this narrative is Henry Plummer who, in 1852, arrived in Nevada City, a gold camp in California's High Sierra. His life here began innocently enough, but he soon had 2 murders to his credit and 10yrs. later was a fully fledged villain directing a gang of criminals. In 1863 he moved to Idaho and was elected sheriff despite his doubtful past. There he fell foul of the vigilantes. How the citizens meted out justice to him and his band of cut-throat agents. 271pp. small 8vo. h/back. With tiny label to fpd, v.v. lightly foxed fore-edge o/w Nr. F. in sl. frayed Vg. protected dw.
