Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. The wraps of this good-condition original 1851 paperback have been protected by being further wrapped in what looks like waxed paper. 568 pp. including the Table Des Matieres, which is at the rear, of course, this volume being inescapably French. This edition appearing shortly after the death of Frederick Bastiat (1801-1850) the pioneer champion of free-market, laissez-faire economics, who ridiculed and rebutted the usefulness of government interventions in the economy (inevitably undertaken to benefit one special interest or another) by the simple expedient of noting the widespread damage such interventions actually caused (a lesson still not grasped in the political capitals of America and most of the world) -- as famously in his satirical essay on the petition of the candle-makers, who urged the government to extinguish the sun, as its cost-free (and thus obviously "unfair") competition was sharply reducing their sales. This 1851 edition now reduced from $60.
