stiff wraps. Ronald Ferns (Illus.) (illustrator). 1st Edition. 1st ed. octavo, colour stapled wraps, colour illustrations throughout including endpapers, yapp edges pp.12. Fishing to edges of both sides of wraps with some loss, very small hole edge of rear wrap. Light marks along edge inner endpaper and last page, marks along edge of first page, generally clean, good condition. Published to commemmorate the two hundredth anniversary of Guinness. Lavishly illustrated throughout in bright colours by Ronald Ferns (1925-1997) the illustrator, set and costume designer, painter and children's author who among his other works illustrated a set of full-colour booklets for Guinness. Each page adapts characters and episodes in Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass to extoll the virtues of Guinness: e.g. the Red Queen, in a full-page illustration with Alice and scurrying creatures, "Whenever I lose my Patience," said the Queen, "I always have a Guinness." Also featured are the playing cards, Father William, the Mock Turtle, the Walrus and the Carpenter and the White Knight, all drinking Guinness, the White Rabbit and Alice talking about the anniversary, and the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. A charming and collectable piece of ephemera.
