Small 4to hardcover with light green cloth boards and dark green titling on the spine, deckled edges, and custom paintings on the end papers rendered from statues, ceramics, temples, and other various works from Mayan culture. Comes with a matching dark green slipcase with silver titling on the spine. The Popol Vuh contains the creation story of the Quiche (K'iche') Maya, originally oral stories that were transcribed by a Spanish-Dominican friar Francisco Ximenez during the 18th century. The name Popol Vuh translates to "Book of Community" or "Book of Counsel". The condition of the book is Very Good (binding tight; little to no shelf wear; little to no interior damage; previous owner ex-libris stickers on half title page and verso paste down). The condition of the slip case is Very Good (very light shelf wear along the bottom edge; light shelf wear to the top edge). 251pgs.

Printed at The Plantin Press, San Francisco. 251pp. [253pp.] CONDITION: Very Good Plus in a Very Good Plus slipcase. Slight darkening to spine with three small spots of foxing to same. Otherwise clean, unwritten in and in a firm binding. Slipcase has two inconsequential small dings.** Tales of the ancient Mesoamerican Quiché Indian tribe, a branch of the Maya Empire once encompassing present day Yucatán, Mexico, the present Republic of Guatemala and Western Honduras. The work chronicles verbal traditions of the Quiché from antiquity, which were gathered into written form in the sixteenth century by Chichicastenango and thereafter into Spanish by Spanish priest Father Ximénez. Creator myths, and mythology. Called by the translator " the most distinguished example of native American literature that has survived the passing centuries." (p. 185). Some of the stories include: The coming of Spanish conquistadors, such as Pedro de Alvarado, renamed Donadiú, "The God of the Sun" and "The Death of Hunahpú and Xbalanqué." (AMJ).
