Softcovers. Condition: Good Plus. Presumed First Softcover Edition. No stated date but believed to be 1951 and presumed first edition. 126pp. plus 2 pages of advertisements and advertisements on the inside of the covers. Jon J. Deegan was a house name created by the editor of Authentic Science Fiction, probably used exclusively by the author Robert George Sharp (1902-1967) for material published in that journal. Reconnoitre Krellig II is the first story in The Old Growler space exploration series. The series predated and was more plausible than the original Star Trek, portraying a mothership sending out small scout vessels and unmanned probes rather than beaming down the ship's captain. The book is staple-bound inside the original paper covers with a striking colour illustration on the front cover and an advertisement for the Authentic Science Fiction series on the back cover. The book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling on the covers and some rust staining from the staples showing through near the spine edges. The corners of the covers are curled with some creasing and there is is also creasing along the bottom edge and spine edge of the front cover. The front cover has some indentations near the fore edge with two small pieces missing and these have been covered on both sides with strips of clear document repair tape (a similar repair has been carried out to the fore edge of the half-title page). The contents are secure and clean apart from some staining on the fore edge of the inside of the front cover and half-title page and there are indentations near the fore edge of the first thirty or so pages. The corners of the first and last few pages are slightly curled and the edges of the pages are age-browned. There is no inscription.
