Hardcover. Condition: Fine. First edition. Fine copy of this excellent leaf book. Printed letterpress in Bembo on Lana, a French mouldmade paper, bound in 1/4 goatskin with Fabriano paper boards. Really a lovely production. The leaf in this copy is important -- it is from the preliminary "to the reader" prologue, in which the publisher bemoans the publication of bible in English and explains the present book as essentially a necessary evil. The author explains that, back in the good old days of St. Jerome's Vulgate, "the scholar taught not his master, the sheep controlled not the pastor," and so on. A significant leaf regarding the history of the translation of the Catholic bible into English. Hamel and Silver, Disbound and Dispersed 192.
