THE INSIDE STORY OF THE HARDING TRAGEDY, Harry Micajah Daugherty in collaboration with Thomas Dixon, hardcover, probable first edition, stated fourth printing, illustrated with photos, 1932. BOOK CONDITION: good. The text block is in near fine condition, with no tears, dogears, or marks. Pages are age-tanned as are the endpapers with darker areas near spine. There is no bookplate nor signature of a prior owner. Not a library book nor remainder. The brown boards are in good condition (light bumping of corners and spine, edge wear, lightly faded spine with a few tiny spots). 9 ½ x 6 ½, 321 pages, 27 ounces. XX [Wikipedia] Harry Micajah Daugherty (born January 26, 1860; died October 12, 1941) was an American politician. A key Ohio Republican political insider, he is best remembered for his service as Attorney General of the United States under Presidents Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge, as well as for his involvement in the Teapot Dome scandal during Harding's presidency. Despite his status as a key political leader of the Ohio Republican Party from the 1880s to the first decade of the 20th century, Daugherty was himself only briefly a statewide elected politician by serving just two terms in the Ohio General Assembly, working closely during the last two years with Ohio Governor William McKinley. Although he sought national office several times, Daugherty was thwarted in his effort to obtain the nomination of his party and was never elected to office again. Daugherty remained an influential figure behind the election of several US representatives and senators. In 1920, he was Harding's campaign manager at the Republican National Convention. Following Harding's successful election, Daugherty was named Attorney General. In that capacity, he was instrumental in winning presidential pardons for jailed anti-war dissidents such as Eugene V. Debs. Twice the subject of federal corruption investigations, Daugherty was forced in 1924 to resign his post as Attorney General by Harding's presidential successor, Calvin Coolidge.

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. 1st Edition. First Edition, First Printing. Binding is nice and clean, corners square, very slightest indications of shelf wear. Internally, previous owner's name to ffep, toning to end papers, pages uniformly lightly toned, otherwise clean front to back. Uncommon dust jacket is pretty rough several chips, none more than 1" or so, along all edges, a long tear down the middle of the spine, general chipping, etc. Still in one piece with only a couple of letters from the co-author's name missing from text. Dust jacket now protected by clear archival mylar. A very good, solid copy in a poor dust jacket. All of our books are individually inspected and described. Never ex-lib unless explicitly described as such.
