Hardcover. Condition: Good+ Hardback. Charles Folkard (illustrator). 240 pages.
Hardcover. Condition: Fair. First American Edition. 8 color plates; many toned in-text drawings; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 240 pages; HC 1st American edition. Soundly bound in original heavy blue cloth with a full size cloth pictorial title panel mounted to the upper board and a small cloth title label to spine. The first edition is distinguished by the full complement of 8 vibrant color plates by Folkard, along with a number of toned full plate illustrations and in-text toned drawings throughout. Later printings lacked much of the decorative detail included in this 1st edition. This copy, however, is deficient lacking one leaf - p 207/208 - which has been torn away. Cloth label at spine lifted a little and stressed at top front corner; color cloth panel to cover board has a small 1/2 x 1/4 inch rectangular chip at the lower front corner and light shelf rubbing to surface. Pictorial maps endpages; front flyleaf has remnant of what likely was a bookplate. Some scattered mild finger soiling to pages a few superficial gaps between signatures. Quite uncommon in the 1st edition, though this copy deficient as described and sold with all faults. Fair to Good only thus.
