First Edition
Trade paperback. Condition: Good. x, 277 pages. Footnotes. Tabular Data. Appendices. Maps. Selected Bibliography, Index. The cover has some wear and soiling. Sticker residue on front cover. Prepared under the auspices of the American Academic Association for Peace in the Middle East. Michael Curtis is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of political science at Rutgers University. He is highly regarded as an expert in several fields--political theory, comparative government, European politics and the Middle East. An activist as well as a scholar, he has served as the president of American Professors for Peace in the Middle East and editor of the Middle East Review. Joseph Neyer was a long-serving professor at Rutgers (from 1947-1989). He was chair from 1953 to 1965, a key period in the department's history as Rutgers was transitioning from its private college roots to officially becoming the State University of New Jersey in 1956. Neyer had wide-ranging interests, but was particularly interested in the search for peace in the Middle East and the work of Emile Durkheim. Chaim Isaac Waxman (born February 26, 1941) is an American sociologist now living in Israel. He is the Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Jewish Studies at Rutgers University and a Senior Fellow at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute. This work is the first major compendium to both document and explain the Palestinian people and their demands. It is an authoritative collection delving deeply into the complexities and ramifications of the central problem in the Middle East conflict. Prepared by specialists in the field of Middle Eastern affairs, the work covers Jews and Arabs in Palestine in a historical context, followed by discussion of the sociological and political aspects of Palestinian Arab nationalism. The volume also offers a balanced appraisal of Israeli views of the Palestinian problem and materials covering the guerrilla and political programs of the Palestinians. This work is a fundamental contribution to the study of terrorism in a modern context. Completing the volume are a series of maps, charts, and listings of terrorists acts. Presumed First Paperback Edition, First printing.
