Leather. Condition: Very Good. A handsomely bound set of this practical encyclopaedia of cookery, beautifully illustrated with colour and folding demonstrative plates. Eight volumes bound across three, with continuous pagination from A-M and then N-Z as called for. Title page for volume three is bound in volume two, with amended half title bound at the beginning of volume three. Profusely illustrated throughout with sixty one colour plates, of sixty five, several of which folding. Lacking four plates, including frontispiece of the editor. Also contains vignette illustrations throughout. Illustrated by some of the most well-regarded illustrators of the period, including Harold Furniss, George Cruikshank and W. Munn Andrew. A charming and thorough work, this encyclopaedia covers a wide variety of cooking terminology and ingredients, including detailed recipes for simple and elaborate meals and special occasion foods. The work is credited for its precise phrasing and demonstrative illustrations, which are both useful and highly decorative. Edited by Theodore Francis Garrett. In half morocco bindings with cloth covered boards. Externally in excellent condition with slight rubbing to the extremities. The odd mark to the board. Fading to the spines. Hinges slightly strained but firm. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with slight age toning and the odd spot, heavier to the first and last few pages. Evidence of professional repair to title page of volume two including tipping in of small area of paper to cover volume details, presumably done when rebound. Very Good. Harold Furniss, George Cruikshank, W Munn Andrew et al. (illustrator). book.
