Cookie Mueller's book of fictional letters and telephone call transcripts between public and private personas, displaying the hilarious and sexy nature of analogue communication and microcelebrity ideation. Mueller's first entry into the series, this was one of two Hanuman titles that faced obscenity charges by the Indian government, nearly stopping its shipment to New York. Cookie Mueller was a writer, but perhaps more prominently, a producer of the good life in New Yorkin the specifically queer valence that gave the city both its shine and grit in the 1980s. Her life and work crossed that of John Waters (who credits Mueller with the name for Female Trouble), Nan Goldin, Peter Hujar, Gary Indiana, Penny Arcade, David Wojnarowicz, and too many others to name. Cookie Mueller and Glenn O'Brien's stage-play DRUGS, published for the first time, in an edition of only 500 copies, by The Kingsboro Press and For The Common Good in 2016, nearly 31 years after the play was first written. DRUGS was performed only once at La MaMa in 1985, in a staged reading starring Steve Buscemi and Mark Boone Junior alongside Cookie Mueller.
