Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 171+[4 ad] pages with diagrams. Small octavo (7 1/4" x 4 1/2") bound in original publisher's pictorial wrappers. First published in 1973. There are diagrams from actual chess games here, followed by hints on what to play, and solutions at the back. Then at the last chapter you rate yourself whether you are an ordinary or a good club player. Condition: Edge wear, corners bumped, rubbed and creased, some foxing else very good.

Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. No date given, circa 1935 -1937. Original blue cloth with black lettering. Frontispiece caption states that the present world champion is Dr. Max Euwe, who was the World Chess Champion from 1935 to 1937. A clean very good copy with discreet prior owner name on the front flyleaf. Clean and tight with crisp text. Alexander was an Irish-born British cryptanalyst, chess player, and chess writer. He worked on the German Enigma machine at Bletchley Park during the Second World War, and was later the head of the cryptanalysis division at GCHQ for 25 years. In chess, he was twice British chess champion and earned the title of International Master. Scarce, we find no other copies of this book listed and it apparently pre-dates other books by this author. The book itself shows only a slight hint of shelf rubbing of the extremities, else Fine/As New. The dust jacket shows marginal shelf rubbing along the edges, a short closed tear and some creasing of the back panel, price-clipped, otherwise remains bright, colorful, and distinct. As pictured.
