Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. very near Fine. First edition. 8vo. [4], 5-318, [2] pp. Red cloth with gold lettering on the spine. Price of 35/- net on the front flap of the dust jacket. Illustrated with a full-page map and with two double-sided plates of black and white photographs from the riots. Introduction by Robert Kirsch. Stanford, Martin Luther King Jr., Research and Education Institute, "Watts Rebellion (Los Angeles)". A compilation of primary source interviews and accounts of the Watts Rebellion. The authors of this book were journalists writing for the Los Angeles Times, and covered the riots as they happened. According to the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., the riots were fueled by high rates of unemployment for Black residents of L.A., the repeal of a California state law which previously forbade discrimination in housing, and a combined neighborhood density and social isolation that afflicted the Watts neighborhood. A tiny brown spot on the top textblock, else a beautiful example.
