Television's first 90-minute Western series, and one of the longest running Western shows in history, having aired for a total of 249 episodes. Based on the 1902 novel by Owen Wister, the series revolved around the foreman of the Shiloh Ranch, a tough man known only as "The Virginian." In this installment, The Virginian searches a nearby town for the real killer after Stacey Grainger is falsely accused of murder. The episode originally aired on January 25, 1967, on NBC. Actress Coleen Gray was born Doris Jensen in Staplehurst, Nebraska. After graduating from Hamline University, she moved to California, where she would sign with Twentieth Century-Fox in 1944. She appeared in multiple prominent films with the studio, including the 1947 films noir "Kiss of Death" and "Nightmare Alley," and the 1948 Howard Hawks Western "Red River." Gray worked steadily in Hollywood throughout the 1950s, most notably appearing opposite Sterling Hayden in Stanley Kubrick's 1956 classic "The Killing," but by the 1960s had largely moved her career to television.
