First Edition Signed
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This is most certainly deserving of the description 'rare'. I cannot find another copy for sale anywhere on the Internet. The only copy that WorldCat locates in the United States is at the Library of Congress. However, I doubt that their copy is Signed. Yes, this one is. On the title page where the painter wrote 'O. Aldon James, Jr.' at the top and his own name and the year at the bottom. O. Aldon James, Jr., from 1985 to 2011, was the president of The National Arts Club, a private club in Gramercy Park, Manhattan. He was credited during that time with revitalizing the organization and doubling the membership. However his reign ended badly with a conviction for fraudulent use of the club's nonprofit tax identity by James's twin brother John. They were forced to pay the city a large settlement. It seems likely that there may have been a show of Chua Hu's work at The National Arts Club at some point in time. This book is 110 pages long. It is in both English and Chinese. Pages 45-93 feature the artist's works. All are in color, half in the blue tones he is famous for. I've provided photographs of the book. It is a Softcover. The binding is perfect. As you can see, there's a little bit of handling darkening on the white covers. The interior of the book is very clean. The reproductions of his work are vivid. There is a vertical crease that affects ten pages, but fortunately it passes over a painting on only one page. Pages 73 and 74 fold out so that each is actually three pages. Chau Hu's awards include the 20th Century Award for Achievement from the International Biographical Centre; French Academic Internationale des Arts-Lettres-Science's medaille de Bronze; Association Belgo-Hispanica's Espesicion de Orle; and the Albert Einstein International Academy Foundation's Metal for Peace. Chau Hu ((Tsai Yun-cheng) 1929-2009. Inscribed by Author(s).
