First edition. - An Introduction to Landscape Design and Garden Architecture, a very scarce booklet introducing readers to the joys of landscape gardening, written by landscape gardener Joseph Cheal and published by his business J. Cheal and Sons. In the publisher's original paper wraps, with numerous in-text photographs of different gardens, showcasing what can be done with landscaping. Joseph Cheal was a successful landscaper , with his firm working on a variety of projects, including the grounds of Hever Castle in Kent, as well as the Kirkstall Abbey in Yorkshire. Influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement, the firm flourished during the Edwardian era. In the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally, the odd spot and browning to wraps. Brown binding ribbon is excellent condition. Pastedowns are generally bright and clean, with minor signs of browning. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with minor offsetting to first and final leaves. Good. book.
