Charles (Charlie) Newton Elliott (1906-2000) entered the conservation field with the U.S. Forest Service at Cabinet National Forest in Montana & Idaho. He was the first Director of Georgia State Parks from 1937-1938 and then became the Commissioner of Natural Resources in 1938-1941, to then become the first Director of the Game and Fish Commission in 1943 through 1949. He was also Southeastern Field Editor for Outdoor Life magazine; and the namesake of the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center, located about an hour east of Atlanta in Mansfield, GA. Fine/VG+.
