Trade Paperback. Condition: Used - Very Good. This intimate exhibition catalogue, produced to accompany Marlborough gallery's recent posthumous New York exhibition of R.B. Kitaj's small paintings, most of which measure well less than two feet square, and many of which depict his astonishingly influential circle of friends and heroes--Creeley, Auden, Freud, Arendt, Greenberg--is also a memorial of sorts. The artist died on October 21, 2007, at which time the Marlborough exhibition was already in the works. Therefore, in addition to color illustrations of the 85 paintings which were exhibited--which span from 1965 to 2007, with the majority dating from 2006 and 2007--this volume includes plentiful documentary images, as well as quotations, remembrances and short essays from many of his esteemed colleagues and friends, including Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Maria Friedlander, Nicholas Serota, Frank Auerbach and David Hockney. It is a fitting tribute to an artist whom the London 'Times' called 'one of the most passionate and committed artists of his time.' Like new copies. From the personal library of Kitaj.…

paperback. Condition: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This is the first edition of the exhibition catalogue of this stunning artist's work. Stiff card wrappers, issued without a jacket. There is a small dot on the base of the text block, which indicates a remainder copy, and there is a slight amount of sunning, so it is not 'perfect'. But if you can live with these slight faults this is otherwise a perfectly good copy of the first printing. Brilliant reproductions of this extraordinary contemporary realist.…

Paperback. Condition: New. The photographs that fill the end papers of this 50-year retrospective show Larry Rivers between takes of Pull My Daisy with Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg; then leaning against a car with a Speedo-wearing Frank OÃHara; posing thoughtfully with Kenneth Koch; and playing sax at the Blue Bird. Facsimiles of creased and dog-eared review clippings include midcentury New York Times, Herald Tribune and ArtNews raves, and a 1997 Times piece crediting Rivers with bringing back à handmadeî art. A soft-edged aesthetic permeates his work, never contradicting the symmetry and glamour that led to the burst of late twentieth century and early twenty-first century high-fashion illustration that closes the book.…
