In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Spine is a little rubbed. Minor bumping to the extremities. Light marks oto the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Al primo volume antiporta figurata e doppio frontespizio, il primo con illustrazione a piena pagina, ambedue incisi da G.L. Guidotti su disegni di D. Piola e G.C. Ratti. Lievi bruniture alla parte interna delle prime carte del secondo volume. L'Opera comprende numerose brevi biografie di artisti, 64 delle quali con relativo ritratto inciso in ovale. Le tavole del primo volume sono di Guidotti, quelle del secondo sono di G. Perini su disegni di R. Ghelli, G. Perini, F. Mattei, P. Bocciardo, A. Storace e P. Mazza, etc. Capilettera, testatine e finalini calcografici. La biografia del Soprani è di Niccolò Cavanna. Nella sezione "Notizie de' pittori, scultori, ed architetti che in Genova in diversi tempi operarono" compaiono, fra gli altri, Matteo Civitali, Perin Del Vaga, Domenico Beccafumi, Rubens, Van Dyck, etc. Fresca impressione. Fondamentale repertorio biografico degli artisti, non solo genovesi ma anche liguri, opera del pittore e storico Raffaele Soprani (Genova, 1612 ? 1672). La prima edizione è del 1674, pubblicata postuma. La presenta seconda edizione è integrata di numerose altre biografie dal pittore Carlo Giuseppe Ratti (Savona, 1737 - 1795). Bound in woodblock-printed floral polychrome wraps. Mottled edges. White background of wraps rather toned. Second, much expanded edition of this architectural guide to the city of Genoa, intended, one supposes, for French and Francophone tourists. (The 1768 edition was shorter and had only four illustrations.) The printer, named in the colophon as Adamo Scionico, chose good paper stock that holds the bite of the type and of the engraved plates, which are bright and fresh. The authors names do not appear in the text, but do appear in a very similar 1768 publication in Italian from the same printer, and they have been traditionally applied to the French text as well.
