Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This thought-provoking book delves into the extraordinary life and achievements of Dr. David Livingstone, a renowned missionary and explorer whose pioneering journeys had an unparalleled impact on the Victorian era and the abolitionist movement. Through firsthand accounts and meticulous research, the book provides a comprehensive exploration of Livingstone's courageous expeditions into the unexplored regions of Africa, his unwavering pursuit of geographical knowledge, and his unwavering dedication to the eradication of the slave trade that ravaged the continent. His extensive travels brought about transformative discoveries in geography, including the mapping of the Zambezi River and Lake Malawi. The book also explores Livingstone's profound Christian faith, which fueled his determination to bring about social justice and religious conversion among the people he encountered. His discoveries fostered a greater understanding of the African continent and its diverse cultures, solidifying his place as one of the most important figures in shaping the Western world's perception of Africa. In addition to its riveting accounts of Livingstone's adventures, the book delves into the broader historical context of the Victorian era, the rise of Christianity in Africa, and the global fight against slavery. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 8 + 632 pages, illustrated, not dated. This appears to contain the original Adam & Co publication (where the title given refers to "David Livingstone, LL D"); then maybe a re-publication (where the title given refers to "Dr Livingstone"); and finally appears to have been rebound, and into attractive calf covers. On the front cover is "The Life and Explorations of Dr Livingstone, The Great Missionary Traveller". The text pages show a degree of light foxing throughout; one very minor stain shows; minimal wear to covers; generally in very good condition, considering age of at least the original part of the book. A very robust copy. PLEASE NOTE! This is a heavy book (ca 3kg when packed) but postage/shipping within UK is included in the indicated pricing for 3-5 days shipping time option. For an order outside of UK or an order within UK for 1-3 days shipping time option, however, I will be asking for an additional contribution towards shipping costs.
