The author, Captain Sydney Temple Leopold McLaglen (1884-1951), was one of the most colourful 'characters' of the early 20th century jiu-jitsu scene.

The binding is rubbed and marked with a closed tear of about three inches to the upper joint; the head and foot of spine are a little worn. The there spotting around the original mounted photograph of the Nawab Sir Salar Jung.
