Book plate on the front paste down noting that the book was given as a first prize in biology in 1934. Not ex-library. Spine of the book has a very small dent and 1/2" fray at upper corner otherwise solid. Slight browning on a few pages and a couple of pages roughly opened. "This volume is concerned more with natural history than with sport; the few chapters devoted to the chase are intended to describe and illustrate various methods of hunting rather than to give lengthy descriptions of bags and blood." A scarce book.

There is also a small area of fraying at the head of the spine, and some rubbing at the tail. There is a bit of foxing to all three edges. There is an old-looking private book plate on the front paste-down, along with a small, oblong seller's label (Rowland Ward Ltd, 166 Piccadilly, London). The opening leaves are a little creased along their right-hand edges. Overall, a reasonable first edition copy with a bit of shelf wear and some discolouration to the cloth at the bottom of the upper cover. Collated and complete.
