Soft cover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. A Fine copy in self-wrap paperback binding. The author (a long-time friend of Bukowski) has written a series of anecdotal profiles on ten important writers including--besides Bukowski-- John Winers, James Broughton, Philip Lamantia, Bob Kaufman, Allen Ginsberg, William Everson, Gregory Corso, Harold Norse, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Cherkovski chose these particular authors because each, like Whitman, has taken "his own road" and had little to do with what was thought acceptable in mainstream American culture during the 1940's and 1950's. As in his highly acclaimed biography Bukowski: A Life, Cherkovski draws on personal encounters and his own reactions to individual poems in order to create biographical portraits that are at once enlightening and full of life.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st edition. VG+. 8vo, 72pp, stapled wrappers. Entire issue devoted to work by or about Bukowski. Clean unmarked copy, light spotting to covers and faint storage smell. Not Signed.
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. A Fine tight copy in a Fine unclipped dust jacket. Cherkovski reproduces many of his favorite Bukowski poems and little fragments of prose and then analyzes them insightfully in relation to the Bukowski's life. Cherkovski was a good friend of Bukowski during the late Sixties, and his tales of their exploits together will make the average Bukowski reader jealous. Cherkovski's compassion and respect for his subject are almost heartwarmingly ever-present. He gives fans and nonfans alike another, if not totally different, picture of the great Bukowski.

Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. Vol. 1 Issue 1. Limited edition. Signed on verso of front cover in sharpie by Charles Bukowski, Neeli Cherkovski (twice, once as alias "Fred Dyer"), Harold Norse, and what must have been a very drunk Steve Richmond. Small illustration that appears to be a combined effort of Cherkovski and Bukowski. Numbered 9 in upper corner; this appears to be one of a very few numbered copies perhaps signed at a collating party at Bukowski's house. 32 pp. Yellow stapled wraps. Near Fine with oxidization to staples and faint foxing to edges. Quite rare signed. This short-lived literary magazine was essentially Charles Bukowski's manifesto of the "Meat Poets"-- a mimeo'd journal of poetry with his brief editorial screed on the front cover attacking the bigwigs of the Black Mountain school. Fellow contributors include John Thomas, William Wantling, T.L. Kryss, Gerda Penfold, Douglas Blazek, and a few other kindred spirits. A high spot of '60s rebel poetry.
