First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, 447pp. Beige cloth, title on spine in silver gilt over black cloth. Light dust and foxing along leaf ends. Illustrated end papers with maps of North Korea. Stated "first edition" on copyright page. In the publisher's near fine dust jacket, retail price on front flap, touch of shelf wear, a bright example. Inscribed by Commander of the USS Pueblo on the title page: "For Al_, A great American. Lloyd Bucher. CDR, USN." Commander Lloyd Bucher (1927-2004) was the commanding officer of the USS Pueblo (AGER-2), a United States Navy intelligence ship seized by North Korean forces on January 23, 1968. The USS Pueblo incident resulted in the capture of Bucher and his crew, who were held captive by North Korea for 11 months before their release on December 23, 1968, after extensive negotiations. Following his return, Bucher faced a Navy Court of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances of the seizure, which ultimately determined that he and his crew had acted admirably under extreme duress. Lloyd Bucher retired from the Navy in 1973 and passed away on January 28, 2004. Signed.
