Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. George Cruikshank and H.K. Browne (illustrator). With Forty Illustrations by Cruikshank and H.K. Browne. Not dated. Edition and printing not known. In good brown half leather with marbled boards; five horizontal raised bands to spine; two inserted brown title fields with gilt titles. The covers are firm, straight and clean, with sound edges. Evidence of previous repair work done to spine; and front sides of spine cracked, ends a little worn. Very slightly tanned and foxed end papers; gutter areas is worn. Red mottled cut edges, slightly tanned; the top edge has a dark tint. The text block is tightly bound and straight; prelims marked and lightly foxed. The main block of pages is mostly quite clean, but with some marks and foxing. The illustrations by George Cruikshank and H.K. Browne are well preserved, but three from Oliver Twist are loose - opposite pages 50, 82 and 126 and frontispiece is missing though tissue guard remains. A Tale of Two Cities section is in better condition, Overall, quite a good example for age - good condition. No jacket.
