Umschlag gestempelt. Der F.I.A.T. Final Report No. 1048 mit dem Titel "The Production of Zirconium Oxide" wurde erstmals im Januar 1947 veröffentlicht. Er dokumentiert die technischen Erkenntnisse der Alliierten über die deutsche Zirkonoxid-Produktion unmittelbar nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Der Bericht war Teil der FIAT-Berichte (Field Information Agency; Technical), in denen amerikanische und britische Experten die deutsche Industrie nach 1945 untersuchten, um technologisches Know-how zu sichern. Das Interesse der Frankfurter Metallgesellschaft A.G. an dem Bericht war geschäftlich nachvollziehbar. Der strategische Wert des nur fünfseitigen Berichts lag 1947 in der Enthüllung von Betriebsgeheimnissen, die zuvor unter strenger Kontrolle des Rüstungsministeriums standen. Und unter dessen Schutz hatten vor 1945 Großkonzerne wie die I.G.Farben oder die Auergesellschaft das ausschließliche Wissen über die chemische Trennung von Zirkon und Silizium unter Verschluß. Der FIAT-Bericht machte deren Verfahrensparameter (Temperaturen, Mischverhältnisse, Filtertechniken) für Unternehmen wie die Metallgesellschaft AG sofort und kostenlos zugänglich. Und für die Metallgesellschaft war Zirkonoxid wettbewerbsentscheidend: es war z. B. notwendig für feuerfeste Auskleidungen in Schmelzöfen. In der zerstörten Nachkriegswirtschaft war es deshalb überlebenswichtig, aus minderwertigen oder knappen Zirkonsanden mit minimalem Energieaufwand hochreines Oxid zu gewinnen. In dieser Sache lieferte der Kurzbericht die dafür optimierten deutschen "Best Practices". Zugleich war dieses Wissen für die Metallgesellschaft die Voraussetzung, um international wieder als Anlagenbauer (über die Tochter Lurgi) aufzutreten. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 80.
