Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine dj. Illustrated by (dj) Miguel Rio Branco (illustrator). First Edition. [small remainder mark on bottom edge, otherwise a nice unread copy; jacket shows a bit of surface abrasion, minor wrinkling at base of spine]. The author's well-received first (and, as it turned out, last) book, for which he drew from his experiences in the boxing world. Jacket blurbs by Joyce Carol Oates and James Ellroy, the latter calling it "the best boxing fiction since Leonard Gardner's 'Fat City'." The author, alas, died in 2002, and thus never saw the superb Oscar-winning Clint Eastwood film "Million Dollar Baby," adapted by screenwriter Paul Haggis from that story and one other.
