Nineteenth century black morocco backed marbled paper covered boards, spine with raised bands in six compartments, lettered in the second, the others with a repeat decoration in gilt, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt With lovely hand coloured costume plates. Rare folio work illustrated with hand coloured plates on the costume of the Low Countries, originally issued in fourteen parts. Although the title identifies this volume as the first series, no further parts were published. "It is the most variegated costume book of the Low Countries" (Landwehr). Colas 333; Landwehr 242.

Note: the text below the print suggests the portrayed to be Jacob van Campen (1596 - 1657) after the painting by Bartholomeus van der Helst (1613 - 1670). This attribution is currently rejected. The painting - currently attributed to Lodewijk van der Helst (1642 - 1693) - depicts Michiel Servaesz. Nouts (1628 - 1693).
