First Edition Signed
Hard Cover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Included. First Edition. First edition, second printing. Signed by Perry on title page, with MLB authentication sticker. Publisher's black cloth, with spine lettered in silver and blue foil; in its original black dust jacket, with a photo of Gaylord in his windup to front panel, lettered in white and pale blue. Near fine book, with modest staining to endpapers, and a hint of rubbing to spine ends; fair dust jacket, with most of the rear flap missing, some wear to spine ends, some rubbing to panels, scratching to front panel, and some staining to bottom edge of verso. Overall, a decent copy. Gaylord Perry (1938 - 2022) was a Hall of Fame pitcher who amassed 314 wins over 22 seasons. Perhaps his greatest achievement was being the first player to win the Cy Young Award in both the American and National Leagues (1972 Indians, 1978 Padres). He was also a five-time All-Star. Perry was notorious for having a spitball in his pitching arsenal, an illegal pitch that involved greasing the ball with a substance like Vaseline (This may have been more reputation than reality as the only time he was actually punished for potentially doctoring a ball was in his 21st season, when he received a one-game suspension). He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991. Signed.
