Book and archive of related material, includes: 5 handwritten cards by Mare Blocker of the text; three page typed letter regarding the proposed project between Blocker and Chris Stern; two greeting cards printed by Blocker and addressed to Stern regarding the book; two color printed test sheets (one featuring text). The book is one of thirty-five signed and numbered copies (signed by Blocker and Stern); this being #30. 6 .75 x 9.5 in. Printed on Rives Heavyweight in Times New Roman and Futura types, and bound accordion-style with 32 folding panels into gray cloth with red lettering on the front cover. Illustrated with ten woodcuts printed in blue, black, and red. A Fine copy. // "A strange tale of sharp things, dark things, curiosity & love', based on the Victorian parlor game 'Exquisite Corpse'.

Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. A small group of archival material, including the first edition signed by Katherine Dunn and Mare Blocker (as called for) and additionally inscribed by Blocker to noted printer and collaborator Chris Stern, "Dear Flying Fingers - Thanks so much for all your hard work. Please join us again next season. Much Love, The Mystery Girls." With two 10 page photocopied stapled drafts of the text sent to Mare Blocker by Katherine Dunn, with hand corrections made by Dunn, Blocker and Stern. With an additional loose 27"x29" lithograph of the centerfold foldout featuring lions and tigers, unused and unfolded, inscribed by Blocker to Stern, "For Chris. From your big cat gal [signed] Mare 1991." [56] pp., illustrated in color with linoleum and magnesium cuts and one foldout lithograph. Bound in publisher's orange and black tiger-striped cloth with a turquoise question mark in glitter on the front cover. Near Fine with slight lean to binding and slight sunning to cloth. An exuberant artist's book chronicling the adventures of an imaginary touring circus, published in an edition of one hundred and twenty-five copies for the National Museum of Women in the Arts, selected by the NMWA Library Fellows as a winner for the 1991 Artists' Book competition. A wonderful collection of material passed between three Pacific Northwest literary arts luminaries.
