Parlant couramment le russe, il a trouvé un très joli jeu de mots pour son premier roman. En effet, spiatnik, en russe, veut dire « oiseau ivre ». On imagine des Iors aisément ce qui se passerait si un spoutnik, c'est-a-dire un satellite spatial soviétique, devenait ivre ! Et on tremble a l'idée d'apprendre que l'engin russe a été déréglé délibérément. Les conséquences en seraient désastreuses : une troisième guerre mondiale, très certainement. Bien entendu, personne ne veut la guerre. Mais personne non plus ne peut arrêter le terrible engrenage de la confrontation nucléaire.
