The preface is dedicated to Mrs. Bertie, who is referred to as the last survivor of the line, who is thanked for providing the documents on which the book is based.Peregrine Bertie was Commander-in-chief of Queen Elizabeth's Forces, with this interesting memoir detailing his life, family and time in the military. Belonging to the long-standing noble family, the Willoughbys, Peregrine inherited the title Lord Willoughby de Eresby in 1580.Illustrated with a portrait of Bertie, with four folding plates to the rear containing tables of the family ancestry. Edited by C. H. Parry. Bound in quarter morocco with cloth to the boards. Endpapers renewed, blanks and half title retained. Externally, very smart, with light bumping to the extremities and a little fading to the board head. A little marking to the spine. Ink inscription to front paste down and pencil notes to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Front hinge is a touch strained after half title. Pages are bright, with light spotting, mainly to the first and last few pages. Very Good. book.
