Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Jacket and friontispiece by Remington Schuyler (illustrator). "Very good" book -- bearing stylized black and blue design to mostly red cloth -- is "very good" in a "good-plus" jacket with partial separation of front flap and a four-digit number stamped to jacket spine. A kind of Western in which the heroine seeks to free her husband from "the drink habit" by moving the family to a remote ranch. Revenuers soon show up, looking for "the still." As opposed to Easterners (and even Germans) fantasizing about mythic gunslingers, Muzzy/Bower, an actual westerner, wrote accurate depictions of round-ups, cattle branding, etc. based on personal observation. PON of young Mabel Krueger, Linnton, Oregon, dated 1931 in ink to the otherwise blank FFE. 1925 copyright is to Little, Brown, though this G&D reprint is likely a year or two later. 312 pp., reduced from $19.

Illustrated.Boards with light wear and soiling; spine sunned; pages dusty with light age toning. Bertha Muzzy Sinclair (1871 - 1940), best known by her pseudonym B. M. Bower, was an American author who wrote novels, fictional short stories, and screenplays about the American Old West. Her works, featuring cowboys and cows of the Flying U Ranch in Montana, reflected "an interest in ranch life, the use of working cowboys as main characters (even in romantic plots), the occasional appearance of eastern types for the sake of contrast, a sense of western geography as simultaneously harsh and grand, and a good deal of factual attention to such matters as cattle branding and bronc busting.
