Pictorial Hard Cover. Condition: Good. Bertha Corbett Melcher (illustrator). The cover has gray cloth. The illustration on the front board is red, blue and black. In an entry in the back of the book, the author speaks of being in Middleburg and the island of Marken before writing this book. Other places are in the story and included on a map of Holland. Included in the story are windmills, dikes, canals, canal boat ride, tulips, wooden shoes, Dutch clothing, orphan girls' red and black dresses, a Dutch house, money exchange, Kermis week, Edam cheese, St. Nicholas Day, fishermen, and a visit with Princess Juliana. Most of the illustrations, all pastel, are in full color. The cloth has soiling from shelf wear and handling. The top and bottom edges of the spine strip and three board corners are frayed. The text block ends have darkened. The pages have occasional fingerprint soiling, mostly on margin. The title page has a chipped corner. Scans e-mailed upon request. Cloth. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Corbett, Bertha L. (illustrator). Edition not Stated. This 105 pp. early children's book contains different stories, but all with the title characters. The illustrator chose a most unique style in that all the little girls are faceless, as we only see the profiles of their sunbonnets. Very cute. Slight edgewear, but in remarkable condition for a children's book, let alone one that is 114 years old. Delightful cover art also. Photos upon request.
