Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. pp: 286. The first edition of Bennett's third novel, and fourth book. The novel concerns the search by the main character for a way to salvation. The lives of black Americans in the ghettos, and rampant sexuality are central themes of the novel. This is a particularly well cared-for copy. The striking magenta coloured boards are free of any but the most trivial signs of wear. There is a small patch on the free endpaper where a price sticker was likely removed. And, the half-title page has the name of a previous owner at the top. The price-clipped dust jacket has minimal edge wear, and retains the bright red of the lettering. The jacket is protected with a Brodart cover. The author was awarded the 1973 William Faulkner Prize.…
