Chapuy ottenne grande successo, soprattutto fra gli anni Trenta e Quaranta dell`Ottocento, come illustratore di volumi con vedute e paesaggi della Spagna, della Francia e dell`Italia. Nelle sue tavole litografiche assecondò la moda dell`Orientalismo e il revival dell`architettura medievale. Tavola tratta da rara ed imponente opera di vedutistica italiana del XIX secolo.
