Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Hazards by Aleck Bauer, Signed Publisher s Presentation, Limited Edition #87 of 100, 1993, bound in full morocco, binding by Cedric Chivers of Bristol. "This is a limited edition, "Publisher s Presentation" 1993 printing of Hazards. Only 100 copies of this limited edition printing were printed; this book is in numbered #87 in the edition. The book offers an in-depth discussion of hazards and their role in the game from the golden age of golf. Hazards was first published in 1913, under the title Hazards: Those Essential Elements In a Golf Course Without Which the Game Would Be Tame and Uninteresting. The original version was compiled by Aleck Bauer and featured the writings of golf greats like Dr. Alister MacKenzie, Edward Ray, Lewis Crosby, Laidlaw Purves, and Harry Colt. Bauer's Hazards is one of the most important books in the library of golf architecture and also one of the rarest. The author was deeply involved for three years in the reconstruction of the course at his home club of Ravisloe near Chicago, working with golf course architects Robert White and William Watson. Hazards offers a discussion of famous golf holes and their merit. It focuses on the 8th, 11th, 14th and 17th holes at The Old Course St Andrews. Moving inland, the 17th hole at Walton Heath and the 8th hole at Sunningdale are considered, before returning to the seaside for the 10th and 16th at Westward Ho! Cardinal is presented at Prestwick before going to East Lothian for Perfection and Redan at North Berwick and the 15th at Gullane. This 1993 "Publisher s Presentation" by Grant Books includes a new foreword by Peter Thomson, an introduction by Fred Hawtree, and written contributions by Peter Dobereiner and Phillip A. Truett. It was edited by H. R. J. Grant. The "Publisher s Presentation" edition was reset with additional text and illustrations. It is beautifully bound in full green Moroccan leather with gilt stamps and titles to the front boards and green marbled endpapers. The book is additionally signed by the contributors Hawtree, Thomson, Dobereiner, and Truett in various pen inks.". Signed by Author.

Foreword by Peter Thomson; introduction by Fred Hawtree; with contributions by Peter Dobereiner and Philip Truett. 88 pages. First edition (first printing).
