The first endpaper presents an old printed sticker ''Compliments of J. M. Rusk Secretary of Agriculture''. Cover is in good condition or better showing a few light wear here and there (see images). Interior is very good, clean, tight and solid, showing a few library marks and stamps and some browned old glue to last endpaper. FFEP shows a small hole in the middle of page. The map is very fine without any noticeabl wear or flaw.

A nice, clean, tight book in nice shape for the age.

M. Rusk, Secretary of Agriculture", and a letter laid-in (on Dept of Agriculture stationary) from H. N. Hersham, concerning sending this book, and discussing the control of the English Sparrow; dated 1906. This letter & book was sent to F. C. Walcott, future U. S. Senator from Connecticut, and future participant in many government projects, including WW1 relief efforts and WW2 scientific efforts. Walcotts name in in pencil on the front flyleaf, with a 1906 date; likely his signature. Some rubbing at spine extremities and corners. Some light surface rubbing. Surface tear near upper spine. Spine somewhat sun-lightened, but gilt lettering still very readable. Pages somewhat age-toned, and some freckling on the page edges. Else pages clean, but for library markings. Bookplate on the inside front cover with the name of J.M. Rusk, Secretary of Agriculture. Above the printed name on the bookplate the phrase 'Compliments of' has either been written in or else it was pre-printed on the bookplate. Beneath the bookplate is a small purple rubberstamp with the name Remington Kellogg, who was the Ass't Secretary of the Smithsonian. Finally, this volume comes from the collection of Dr. Thomas Lovejoy, who was a passionate book collector as well as a renowned biologist.
