A collection of classic British poets, an attractive set of five short story collections and poetry published between 1889-1911.In the publisher's original decorative cloth, with Ingoldsby, Tennyson and Browning each containing a frontispiece of themselves. Ingoldsby also contains eighteen illustrations by eminent British illustrators George Cruickshank, who illustrated many of Dickens's works, and caricaturist John Leech among others. Collated complete.- The Ingoldsby Legends, or Mirths and Marvels, a short story collection written by humorous poet and novelist Thomas Goldsby, whose real name was Richard Harris Barham. (Frederick Warne, 1889).- The Poetical Works of John Milton, including Paradise Lost, with an introductory memoir, notes, and bibliography written by L. Valentine. (Frederick Warne, 1889).- The Poetical Works of Mrs. Hemans, whose real name was Felecia Dorothea. Contains a prefatory memoir by Hemans and notes. (Frederick Warne, 1890).- The Poems of Elizabeth Barret Browning, poet and wife of fellow poet Robert Browning, including a memoirs and prefaces by the author from earlier editions. In the publisher's original decorative cloth. Externally, smart, with minimal marks to boards. Slight bumping to the heads and tails of the spines. Slight edgewear, mostly to Browning, with signs of rubbing, also to joints and the odd small rubbing mark to spine. Golden fore-edges in nice condition. Black and marble end papers are clean to Browning and Milton respectively. Slight offsetting and browning to decorative end papers of Ingoldsby, Hemans and Tennyson, with signs of wear to hinge of front end papers to Tennyson. Internally, firmly bound, with marginal wear to hinge of Browning between pp.338-339. Pages are bright and clean, with minimal age toning, a couple of faint spots to first leaves of Tennyson and Browning, with slight spotting to frontispiece of Tennyson, and offsetting to half-title of Hemans. Very Good. book.
