Condition: new. ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (S/hand, Hardcover, 1994). 1994 1st edition. 8vo (140 x 222mm). Pp160. B/w photographs. Green cloth, spine titled in gilt. Fine new copy in dust-wrapper. Sheffield-based Tag Barnes broke new ground in carp and other specialist angling in the 1950s and '60s. This is his fascinating angling autobiography. "This is not a book solely about tremendous catches of fish, but is of a lifetime of learning how to enjoy days by the waterside. It is a book partly about solving angling problems which the author passed on to readers through the angling press in the fifties, sixties and seventies. Much of the book covers the days before bolt rigs and boilies were invented; when a five pound chub or tench would find a place on the front page of any angling journal; when a twenty pound carp was only a fish to dream about. During the Second World War the author served with the Commandos in eight countries and fished whenever the opportunity arose. His exploits are retold in this book, together with some extracts from his writings over the years; from his first brown trout caught at the tender age of five to the present day when he recently took a brown trout just short of double figures from Ladybower Reservoir. Younger anglers will be able to read about the 'groundwork' that took place (in some cases before they were born) so that their approach to the sport was made much easier. Older anglers will undoubtedly enjoy, once again, an interesting trip down memory lane." Foreword by Martin James. .

Sport can be energetic and thrilling, often requiring different techniques but giving surprising results. Really good catches, even specimen fish, can be caught from what appear to be the most unlikely places. Baits, tackle, approach and all aspects of the techniques required when fishing these smaller waters are thoroughly discussed here, and all the popular fish are covered." .
