Two small volumes. 13 x 9.5 cm (5 x 3.5 ins), 239, (1); 224 pp. Publishers full maroon morocco with coloured inserts, spines gilt with ornate gilt decoration to the boards, half titles bound in, all edges gilt, yellow eps. Professional re-backed with orig. spines laid down- some rubbing of coloured decorations. Previous owners name on front pastedowns. Strengthened at hinges, occasional age marks throughout. Two small 12mo volumes, each with half-titles and the rare chromolithographic pictorial titles likely used as wrapper, bearing the just discernible name of Gregory, Collins and Reynolds The pictorial title bound before its respective typographical title page; designed as a Renaissance-style architectural composition Gilson E2 described this binding as .I have one in publishers dark red morocco, both boards stamped with a Romantique design in gold and colours, all edges gilt, pale yellow endpapers, with the front illuminated wrapper bound in. Published in Clarke's Cabinet Series, this is the first separate edition of SS to appear after the copyright having lapsed in 1839.
