Athanase de Saincte Agnes, Augustin deschausse, Theologien & Predicateur " The book also includes at the end a list of of quoted authors. The vellum is soiled, the spine strip bumped head and tail, and the title on the spine faded. The board…s are pushed upwards, possibly caused by the vellum shrinking. The spine also sports a torn label witha number "554" or maybe "534" The front end paper, which at some stage was also the front paste down, is torn, and there is loss to the blank outer edge of pp.105/06, as well as pp. 219/220; pp.155 - 162 also have minor loss to the tail. From page 265 the page numbering becomes a tad bizarre, though the book is not misbound, the page numbering is wrong. The original boards were first loosely covered with paper, then leather. Both hinges have been reinforced with masking tape,as has the hinge in a section titled 'Aduis au Lecteur', that same section has loss to the blank outer edge; There is intermittent damp staining throughout the book, but always at the edge of the page. Page 208 to page 260 has quite nasty bookworm damage, though the critter itself has long gone. This is by far the worst damage to the book. Written in ink on the tail, I suspect in the 17th century "Vefve Confolee". There is a signature on the front paste down and a neat handwritten library ownership sign on the front end paper both, in 17th or 18th century handwriting. There is also a much later signature on the title page. Library records seem to call for an engraved frontispiece or plate somewhere in the prelims. which this copy does not have. For all its faults, it is a book with character and with stories to tell. No underlining or annotations and solidly bound.
