Condition: VG. 10pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated with 12 photographs and drawings, including portraits and a map of the polar regions showing Nansen's course, salvaged from a damaged issue of The Strand Magazine, Volume XII, No. 70, December, 1896. Illustrations include a view in Nansen's study, the group portrait of the "lucky thirteen," a view in the saloon of the Fram, a view in Nansen's work-toom on the Fram, Nansen's birthplace at Froen, Christiania, Nansen in his kayak, and portraits of Nansen and Mrs. Nansen, and Captain Sverdrup. Housed in mylar report cover with spine sleeve.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. 2nd Edition. Book is in good condition, pages are sunned but clean and tight. Title page and page before it have various stains. The outter cover is intact but just a bit smuged in places from wear. The top and bottom outter binding are both frayed about a quarter inch each from wear.

Heavy tanning to endpapers. Heavy cracking to gutters. Mild thumb-marking present. Boards have mild edgewear with corner crushing and notable marking to boards. Heavy tanning to board edges and spine, which has mild crushing and tearing to ends. Book has forward lean. Boards are mildly warped. Mild water stains and droplets to boards.

Condition: Fair. 1897. Abridged. 160 pages. No dust jacket. Decorative blue cloth with gilt lettering. Black and white photographic plates and illustrations. Noticeable thumb marking, water staining, foxing and tanning to pages and plates; text and images unaffected. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Moderate cracking to gutters causing some looseness to binding but pages remain attached. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with visible staining, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.
