Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 2nd edition, 1902. (The first edition was published in 1898: this second edition is an exact reprint.) Pp 108 [4] (publisher's adverts). Grey pictorial cloth printed in black. ***John Goodall was one of the most famous players of his era. His four years at Preston North End culminated in winning…the inaugural league championship in 1888-89. Goodall played in 21 of Preston's 22 league games. In 1889 he transferred to Derby where he spent the next ten years. Although Derby did not win a trophy during this time, they came close on several occasions in both league and cup, and Goodall is regarded as one of Derby's greatest ever players. He was capped for England 14 times. Goodall was subsequently player-manager of Watford from 1903-07. The book is mainly instructional but is one of the earliest books written by a player. Nice copy of a scarce title.
