This 6.5 x 9.5 inch, 208 page hardcover - with no dust jacket - is the first edition of this title by the Gillick Press of Berkeley California in 1946 with that date on the title page in roman numerals and matching the copyright date on the copyright page. The title page also features an applied color artists portrait of a man and woman poised by a covered wagon and ready to head west. Maybelle Harmon Anderson, a grand-daughter of Appleton Milo Harmon - features a four-page forward for this edition dated 'November 15, 1946.' This book is in fine condition - with blue cloth covers with gilt decorations on front panel and titling on the spine. The cloth covers show virtually no signs of wear and the corners sharp and the gilt slightly rubbed on the front panel. The interior pages are in strictly fine condition with no damage or markings to be seen. The text pages feature occasional illustrative sketches and one page with an applied illustration of the apparent journal used for this storyline.
