Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine+. First (Limited to 150 copies). A very scarce volume, being a compilation of four lectures given by Anthony Trollope, but never published during his lifetime. The volume was privately commissioned by the noted collector Morris L. Parrish and only 150 copies were printed. Copies only rarely come into the market, and there do not appear to be any other copies currently available. The Lectures include: 1. The Civil Service As a Profession (1861) 2. The Present Condition of the Northern States of the American Union (1862 or 1863) 3. Higher Education of Women (1868) 4. On English Prose Fiction As a Rational Amusement (1870) This copy is near fine in dark blue pebble-grain cloth with gilt titles on the spine and blind-stamped borders on the front cover. Very slight soiling on the covers, but no other marks or damage. Text is slightly age-toned, but no markings to the text at all. Morris L. Parrish (1867-1944) American book collector and stockbroker. At his home, Dormy House in New Jersey, he assembled an extensive collection of 24 Victorian authors, containing more than 6,500 printed books and 1,250 manuscripts. GKP.
