Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Amuchastegui, Axel (illustrator). First Edition. Nasty bumps to top and bottom of spine . Top bump does not affect the book internally but there is evidence of the bottom bump throughout the book affecting a triangular area 2.5 cm by 2.5cm dust wrapper very slightly frayed Old price in ink to front cover. Apart from the bumping of the corner internally pristine with all plates and tissue guards present. No inscriptions or marking. We bought several copies of this book some years ago from the widow of someone who bought up books to sell when he retired. Unfortunately he did not manage to do this. We think he bought these when they were sold off either as remainders or as transit damaged items as there is bumping of corners to some of them. I am giving this information to explain why we are listing a number of copies but also to point out that these are unread having been in storage since 1952; either the publisher's warehouse, the first bookseller's shop, the home of the would-be bookseller, and lastly in our bookroom. As a result the internal condition of the books is exceptionally clean for a book which is 60 years old. This is a higher cost book, heavier than normal book (1.4 kilos with packing) which will incur extra costs for postage and insurance. Before ordering please check with us about availability and cost of postage by using the "Ask the Bookseller a Question" button.

Cloth. Condition: Very Good Plus. Amuchastegui, Axel (illustrator). Probable First American Edition. Buenos Aires: Codex Editors, 1952. No edition stated; presumed first edition. Translated by Herbert M. Clark. Illustrated by Axel Amuchastegui with twenty-four full-folio page sized plates, tissue protected. Corrigenda [errata] sheet laid in. Folio, 12.5" x 9". 194 pp. + bibliography. No jacket. Green cloth with gilt bird on cover and gilt lettering on spine. Spine shows moderate darkening; modest points of shelfwear elsewhere. See scans. All illustration tissue guards present, some with faint creases. Overall, better than Very Good. Not just a tour-de-force of the immensely talented Amuchastegui, Love Life of the Birds also proffers Carlos Selva Andrade's colorful, story-like descriptions of the mating behaviors of the exotic tropical birds who are the subject of the piece. Still, Amuchastegui has become a bit of a bigger star from this one; the prints from this title, when excised from the book, fetch serious prices. Scarce. lg7.
