4to. 12". Vol I: xxix, 1-472pp. Vol II: xi, 462pp., colophon. Two volume, limited edition of 750 copies, this is No. 306. Very good plus books in very good minus dust jackets and very good slip case. Red and dark tan cloth covered boards with gilt lettering and graphics on board panels and spine. Upper edges are gilt. Red place ribbons are attached. "With 250 Illustrations by Maurice LeLoir, Engraved on Wood by J. Huyot." Board spines are slightly sunned; and, to a less noticeable degree, are the front board panels on the left sides along the spine; it's noticeable only because the title lettering is slightly discolored. Foxing on side and lower external edges. Vol I: Upper edge at head of board spine has a 1/8" vertical clip and 1/4" at head of spine is bleached out. A similar but to a slightly less degree bleach-out is on the back corner at tail of board spine. Penciled notes on the back paste down. Dust jacket is heavily sunned on spine and back panel. Front panel is lightly sunned and soiled. Losses at head and tail of jacket spine and several places along the upper edge of the back panel. Lower edge of back panel has two small chips. Fore-edge folds are creased and scuffed but not rubbed through. Back lower fore-edge corner has an inverted "J-shaped closed tear of 3/8" by 3/4" along the fore-edge fold. All fore-edge corners are rubbed. Upper edge of inside front flap has several chips and closed tears. All inside flap corners are uniformly clipped. Vol II: Upper edge at head of board spine has a small bleached spot on the front corner. Back-free end paper has a publisher's flaw; inaccurate fold in the upper left corner. Dust jacket is sunned overall, more so on front panel and heavily on spine. Tail of jacket spine and adjacent lower edges have loss of 2" by up to 1" and an adjacent closed vertical tear of 4" along the back spine fold. Additional losses at head of jacket spine, upper edge of back panel next to spine and several chips along the lower edge of the front panel. All fore-edge corners are rubbed. All inside flap corners are uniformly clipped. Slip case is soiled, corners at opening are minimally cracked and with fraying cloth. Case is solid.
